Choose the Right makeup Colors!

How to Choose Color(From Paula Beguon)
These guidelines will get you on the right track for becoming more comfortable with choosing colors while shopping for makeup:
  • Foundation must matche the skin exactly so there are no lines of demarcation. A foundation that seems to disappear against your natural skin color is what you should choose, unless your skin tone is excessively ruddy or sallow. In those instances, opt for a neutral foundation to minimize the red or greenish tones and create an even canvas for the rest of your makeup
  • Concealer should only be a shade or two lighter than the foundation.
  • Powder should match the foundation exactly or go on transparent so it does not affect the color of foundation in the least.
  • Eyeshadow colors should be neutral shades ranging from pale beige to tan, brown, dark brown, and black (and the thousands of shades in between). Bright colors such as sky blue, fuchsia, yellow, orange, and lime green may seem attractive in the compact but tend to compete with rather than enhance your eyes.
  • Eyebrow color should match the exact shade of the existing brow hair, unless your brows are naturally blonde, in which case the brow color should be slightly darker.
  • Eyeliner on the upper lid should be a darker color (all the way to black, depending on the look you want) than the line along the lower lashes, which should be a softer shade of brown or gray. Lining all around the eye with dark brown or black can look harsh and severe, and will make small eyes seem smaller.
  • Blush can be almost any color as long as it coordinates in some logical fashion with the lipstick color, but it must be blended on softly, without any notice-able edges whatsoever.
  • Lipstick can be bold to neutral there is a fantastic range of great colors. When you're choosing, remember that smaller lips should wear brighter shades than larger lips.
  • To create a tanned appearance, use golden brown and chestnut shades for your blush, eyeshadows, contour, and lipstick. Never apply a foundation or bronzer all over the face if that means you'll end up with a line of demarcation at the jaw or hairline.
  • It is best not to clash color tones. For example, if the outfit you are wearing is peach or coral, your blush and lipstick should have that same underlying color tone or be neutral enough not to clash.
Color Mistakes to Avoid:
  • Don't wear white or very pale lipstick with a white cast to it. This can look ghostly and ghastly.
  • Don't wear blue, green, or overly pastel anything, including eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara.
  • Avoid navy blue eyeshadow. (Stick with black it looks smoky, while navy just tends to look sooty)
  • Don't wear overtly shiny eyeshadows (they exaggerate any wrinkles around the eye); they may be fun occasionally, but only if you have smooth, unlined eyelids. Eyeshadows with a soft shimmer or understated shine can look attractive if judiciously applied to the brow bone or lightly dusted on the center of the eyelid. Again, the key words are "soft" and "understated".
  • Don't wear rainbow-style eyeshadow designs.
  • Don't wear blush and lipstick colors that clash; they should be in the same color family, not glaring opposites.
  • Avoid lipsticks or lip glosses that have a lot of slip and easily travel outside the boundary of your natural lip line
  • Use shine sparingly rather than making every part of your makeup routine include it

TEN Tips for Lasting Makeup

10 Tips for Lasting Makeup

1. Give facial lotion 10 minutes to absorb.
If you apply makeup to a just-moisturized face, it will slide right off.

      2.  Apply foundation sparingly.

Use a sponge or your fingers to dot it where you need coverage, then blend well. Too much makeup allows room for smearing and running.

3. Use natural light.

It will give you a clear picture of how much color you need.  If you apply makeup in too-bright light, you could apply too little -- and it will appear to fade away when you step into the daylight.

4. Set with powder.

Sweep loose powder over foundation to help keep it in place.

5. Line your lips.
Lip liner gives lipstick something to cling to,
making it unlikely that your color will rub off with your first sip of coffee.

6. Don't put concealer on your eyelids.
Many women prime their lids with concealer,
but its creamy texture tends to make shadow crease by midday. Prep lids with loose powder instead.

7. Go for powder products.
Cream-based blush and eye shadow smears and rubs off easily; powders stay in place better.

8. Be choosy with long-wearing products.
Lipsticks and shadows formulated to be long-wearing are often dry and chalky. Test long-wearing products on your hand to determine their texture before you buy  (chalkiness is not a chic makeup look).

9. Blot away shine.
Your skin's natural oils can cause makeup to run,
but applying powder on top of oiliness looks cakey.
Instead, use a blotting paper to dab away shine.

10. Skip heavy eye creams.
They're great for moisturizing the eye area,
but under makeup, they're too greasy and they cause smearing. Use an eye gel instead.*
